The Power of Pause: Why Quiet Destinations Work Better

The Exhaustion of the "Must-See" Have you ever stood in a crowd of five hundred people, all holding their phones up to capture a single sunset, and felt... absolutely nothing? We’ve been conditioned to believe that travel is a checklist. We go to the "Top 10" cities, eat at the "most Instagrammable" cafes, and stand in lines that stretch around city blocks just to say we were there. But often, we leave these places feeling more drained than when we arrived. We’ve spent our entire "rest" period navigating crowds, managing logistics, and performing for our social media feeds. At Roaming Routes , we’ve noticed a shift. The most profound stories don’t happen in the shadows of famous monuments. They happen in the quiet. They happen in those gaps on the map where the GPS signal flickers and the only "notification" you get is the sound of a distant river or the wind moving through a valley. Quiet destinations work better because th...

Kashmir Valley: A Land of Beauty, Strength, and Hope

Kashmir, often called Heaven on Earth, is a place that touches every visitor's heart with its snow-covered mountains, calm lakes, and warm people. But sadly, recent incidents like the attack on tourists in Pahalgam have left a scar—not just on Kashmir, but on the heart of every Indian.

First and foremost, we express our deepest condolences to the families affected by the attack in Pahalgam. This tragedy was not just an attack on innocent lives, but also an attack on Kashmir’s spirit of peace and hospitality. As citizens, we stand united in grief and pray for strength to those who lost their loved ones.

But Kashmir Is Not Just a Place of Violence

Despite this painful event, it’s important to remember that the majority of Kashmiris condemn such violence. The locals, especially those involved in tourism—shikara boatmen, hotel workers, pony riders, guides—were heartbroken. Many of them said, “Yeh hamare mehmaan the. Hamari zimmedari thi unka khayal rakhna.” (They were our guests. It was our duty to protect them.)

For the common people of Kashmir, tourists are not outsiders—they are guests and friends. And even now, despite fear and sadness, the valley is trying to move forward with peace and hope.

Life Is Returning to Normal

People are back at work, children are going to school, and markets are open. In cities like Srinagar, Anantnag, Baramulla, and Kupwara, daily life continues. Many areas remain peaceful, and locals are doing their best to keep the environment welcoming and safe.

After the attack, security has been increased, especially in tourist zones like Gulmarg, Sonamarg, and Pahalgam. Local police and central forces are working 24/7 to ensure no such incident happens again.

Tourism: The Soul of Kashmir’s Economy

Tourism is not just a business here—it’s a lifeline for thousands of families. One attack can scare tourists away, but it also pushes many families into financial stress. That’s why locals want tourists to return—not just for income, but to show the world that Kashmiris stand for peace, not violence.

In recent years, we saw a great comeback in tourism. In 2022 and 2023, record numbers of tourists visited Kashmir, enjoyed snowfall, festivals, and the famous tulip garden. This was proof that Kashmir can be both beautiful and safe. And with the right steps, we can bring that normalcy back.

What Needs to Be Done Now?

1. Strong Security

The government should continue deploying extra forces in tourist zones and build better coordination between local and national agencies. Tourists should feel safe and supported.

2. Awareness Campaigns

Showcasing the real, peaceful side of Kashmir through media, influencers, and travel vlogs is important. One incident shouldn’t define the whole region.

3. Strict Action Against Terrorism

People behind such attacks must be punished strictly. Locals are ready to support the government in identifying and isolating these elements.

4. Tourist Helpline & Travel Monitoring

There should be a dedicated helpline for tourists, real-time travel safety updates, and even GPS tracking for vehicles going to remote spots.

5. Promoting Local Businesses

Encouraging homestays, Kashmiri handicrafts, food tours, and eco-tourism will help boost income and confidence among youth.

A Message to Fellow Indians

Yes, it’s natural to feel scared after hearing about such an attack. But please remember—Kashmir is not defined by terror, it’s defined by its people. And those people are hurting too. They are praying for peace and hoping for tourists to return.

As an Indian, you can help by:

Not spreading hate online.

Supporting Kashmiri products and art.

Planning visits to safer, protected regions of Kashmir.

Sharing positive stories of Kashmir and its people.

Let’s Not Give Up on Kashmir

One incident should not break the centuries-old bond between Kashmir and the rest of India. The valley has faced many dark days, but it always finds light again. The people are trying, the youth are dreaming, and the land is still as beautiful as ever.

To truly support Kashmir, we must not turn away in fear—we must stand by its peace-loving people, support their businesses, and visit again when conditions are better.

Terrorists want to scare us. Let’s answer them with unity and strength.

In memory of the innocent lives lost in Pahalgam, let us commit ourselves to peace, compassion, and understanding. Let us continue to believe in Kashmir—not just as a tourist spot, but as a part of India’s heart and soul.

Jai Hind.
